Nico van den Berg started his own business together with his wife Elly in 1987. They began at a location of 16,000m2, part of which was outdoor field and the rest greenhouses.
At the end of 2011, Nico and Elly's son, Niels van den Berg, joined the company and the property at Oogstpad 14 was purchased, resulting in the split into Montis Moerkapelle BV and Montis Zuidplas BV (18,500 m2 converted into a pot plant cultivation).
In 2016, Oogstpad 12 was purchased. This was a strawberry garden of 11,500 m2 and was converted into a pot plant cultivation. These businesses are adjacent to each other and now operate as one location of 30,000m2.
In 2019, a greenhouse complex was purchased on van Hasseltweg.
Montis is affiliated with the growers' association Addenda®. Members of Addenda have exclusive rights to the developed varieties.
In December 2021, with an eye on the future, an undeveloped plot in the Glasparel Waddinxveen was added to the acreage. Also, from 2022, a rental garden in Pijnacker has been put into use, and from 2023, a rental garden in Moerkapelle has been added.
In the spring of 2023, Niels van den Berg entered into a collaboration with Jan van Dam. This collaboration has merged as Montis van Dam and the sales are handled through the Montis concern.
